ESD mat kits are the first line of defense for protecting ESD sensitive products from the devastating effects of an electrostatic discharge. If the technician wears the wrist strap, keeps insulative items (like Styrofoam cups etc.) off the work surface and transports the ESD sensitive items to the mat kit in a protected status (e.g. static safe bags) the kits will often negate the need for cumbersome ESD heel straps and expensive ESD flooring!

As they are an integral component of any serious ESD program, the industry (in conjunction with the U.S. Military) has set stringent requirements and standards for their performance in the form of ANSI ESD S20.20-2021.

 

So how do you know if your kit is working?

Short of purchasing and maintaining expensive test equipment you’ll need to rely on your manufacturer. Sadly, there are some very popular kits that don’t work (as we have documented here).

 

Each assembly we build is serialized, tested and certified!

A COC is included with each boxed mat and our data is kept on file for a period of 5 years. The ElectraDyne Z3 Series ESD worksurface is made in the USA of a heat fused 3-layer vinyl composite. It is lead-free and RoHS compliant. It is not recommended for soldering. Z3 is intentionally soft thus allowing optimal contact with ESD sensitive product. The worksurface is not “grabby” like rubber and there is no rubber odor. Due to the advanced inner scrim, the ESD properties will never fade, or drift and its static conductance is warranted for 20 years.

 

We pair the worksurface with a compliant ESD wrist strap and common point ground with a ground snap located on the lower left-hand side of the worksurface. We conveniently enclose an easy to install push and cinch connector should another ground snap location be desirable.
